Women in Technology

A SharePoint team site demonstrating custom branding and content types, data connection web parts, and video integration

BUSINESS NEED

The Sales, Marketing, & Services Group in a global corporation wanted to increase its percentage of female employees and to better support those currently employed. To achieve this, the group needed an intranet portal to enhance communication among existing team members and with prospective applicants from other corporate groups.

SOLUTION

In a six-month engagement, 3Sharp designed and developed Women In Technology, a customized SharePoint 2010 site that met the group’s needs.

Key features of the solution include:

  • Carousel of role models – profiles of thirty to forty female managers rotate as users visit the site
  • Descriptions of roles – 16 technical job types are profiled
  • Events tracking calendar – shows conferences, meetings, lectures, and other events. Includes a photo library that rotates event photographs on the home page
  • Career coach roster – allows users to search by role or person among managers willing to mentor
  • Resource library – organized catalog of readings, groups, training materials, videos and Podcasts, best practices and hiring tips and tricks
  • In the News section headlines published news events
  • Connection to 13 Women In Technology chapters worldwide
  • Blog – selected managers can post and readers can comment
